“Kits is great because if you know what you want in your head, Kits will get you there without much hassle”
The normal sample finding process for a music producer involves going onto a sample library website, searching through hundreds of thousands of samples, in the hopes of getting something somewhat close to what you were initially envisioned. The process is time consuming and often leads producers to settle for something close to what’s in their heads.
When working on his track “Neurofunk”, vthrill had the idea for a low and gritty voice to say Can you seen my face? Instead of looking for samples, vthrill used Kits to create an entirely original, never before heard sample: “When you look for loops, you don’t have much freedom. I’m a singer too so I know how to use my voice”.
“As long as you can use it as a creative tool, not just clicking a button, as long as you’re still using your head, then it’s just like any other VST”
vthrill recorded the vocal snippet with his own voice in a low pitch, in the exact delivery he had in his head: Can you see my face? After that, vthrill chose from Kits library of hundreds of Royalty Free voices, landing on the Male Emo Pop and Male Strained Rock voices.
Vthrill was blown away by the results after he converted his recorded vocal over to the Male Strained Rock voice. “I thought I would hear my own voice somewhere in there, but not at all. Nobody thought it was me. Kits is great because if you know what you want in your head, Kits will get you there without much hassle. I just said the vocal how I thought it would fit on the song.”
It’s important to vthrill that AI tools are not taking over the whole creative process: “As long as you use it as a creative tool, not just clicking a button, as long as you’re still using your head, then it’s just like any other VST.”
Vthrill’s attraction to Kits goes beyond it’s value as a creative tool, as he views it as a tool to empower producers. “The whole industry is against producers having equal payment. It’s nice to have an affordable tool that still adds value. I can make Kits sound like 5 background singers but it’s just me singing at home.”
